Soil Reinforcing

The Vistawall utilizes the Grid-Strip® soil reinforcing element. The Grid-Strip® is manufactured from cold drawn wire. The lead end of the Grid-Strip® is resistance welded to a flat plate connector called the BAR connector. The BAR connector is fabricated from steel plate and is 1.5” wide x 5” long with the terminal end having cold-formed serrated edges. These serrations are used to seat the longitudinal wires of the Grid-Strip® soil reinforcing at the location of the resistance weld. The lead ends of the longitudinal wires of the Grid-Strip® are resistance welded to the terminal end of the BAR at the location of the serrations. The resistance weld length is specified to be a minimum of 1” in length.

The soil reinforcing contains two parallel longitudinal bars that are spaced 2” on center. Resistance welded to the longitudinal bars are 3” long, steel, transverse bars. The transverse bars are positioned perpendicular to the longitudinal bars and are spaced at 12” on center. The combination of the longitudinal bars and transverse bars creates a bi-planar soil reinforcing element. The longitudinal bars and crossbars are fabricated from W11 wire with a nominal diameter of 0.375 in conformance with ASTM A1064.
