Thomas P. Taylor
Ph.D., P.E., P.Eng., BC.GE. and President
Dr. Taylor is the President of Ground Improvement Systems, LLC. Dr. Taylor specializes in civil engineering, forensic investigation, product innovation, product development, product testing, and software development.
Dr. Taylor has 28 years of experience in the design and implementation of various civil products. During this time, he has been responsible for the development of several MSE systems that have been used in both temporary and permanent applications for heavy highway transportation, mining, commercial and residential projects. These include large block, small block, and wire facing systems that utilize discrete steel strips, discrete polymer strips, wide width steel mesh, and wide width geosynthetics. The development of these systems includes the concept, design procedure, specification, manufacturing process, and the installation process.
In addition to the development of these products, Dr. Taylor was responsible for the development, implementation, advancement, and maintenance of the computer software program, MSE-Pro and RECalc. Both programs design and analyze earth structures with several external load conditions for both static and dynamic conditions. The software program works interactively with AutoCAD to develop elevations and cross sections through an interface with the calculation module. The bill of materials is generated and downloaded directly to the ERP software Visual Manufacturing.
Dr. Taylor has an extensive background in full-scale and small-scale testing of different civil products including the development of the testing apparatus and performing the tests. He has performed full-scale testing and small-scale testing on the pullout capacity of soil reinforcing, pullout capacity of panel anchors embedded in concrete, structural capacity of segmental concrete panels, shear interface connection strength of small block systems, connection strength of welded wire wall systems, testing of the resilient modulus of reclaimed asphalt pavement base as infill material in geocells.
Dr. Taylor was the founder and president of T&B Structural systems in 1991 until 2007 when it became Vistawall Systems, LLC. At that time Mr. Taylor became the Vice President and Director of Engineering. In 2013, Vistawall Systems, LLC became a division of Big R Bridge at that time he became the Vice President and Director of Research & Development. Dr. Taylor is also an Adjunct Professor in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and a certified instructor for the FHWA.
